DESIGN
Redesigned several levels in The Scout Act 1 to better leverage puzzles and narrative
Incorporated known mechanics and worked with programming to tighten up player interactions with the AI
Worked with cinematic team and prop art team to clean up geometry, camera work, and add narrative flourish
As a team, after launching our large Act 1 patch with several redesigned levels, we jumped up 11% on Steam reviews
Worked with Probuilder in Unity to graybox levels in The Scout
Built interesting ways to use known traversal mechanics to reach bonus content
Worked closely with the writing team to ensure the gameplay experience echoed and amplified the narrative being told
Managed the sprint and oversaw the task lists for the other departments during production to keep the vision and experience focused
Worked directly with storyboard artists to develop timing and camera work for big gameplay moments
Worked with concept artists to develop gameplay spaces and props with the player, our mechanics, and design goals in mind
Worked with programming to find solutions for new mechanics or to rethink how we implement older mechanics
As the audio lead on these projects, there is always an acute awareness of how audio impacts the gameplay - the experience has audio and dialogue in mind from the start

James Marantette
Based out of Portland, James Marantette is a composer and sound designer with a fervent love for everything audible: big strings, massive synth riffs, lighthearted jigs, the broken heating unit, that one beep the stove makes, and the wonderfully sad call of his cat when attention is demanded. In nearly every noise, a fantasia of small parts working together to express something grand. James finds a passion in the exploration, in the spaces between normal and expected. His works will always remain grounded, while they venture out for that bit of magic just beyond.
